Located on the rooftop, eight PV arrays have been installed with various PV module technologies:

  • 3 polycrystalline
  • 1 monocrystalline
  • 1 thin film - cadmium telluride (CdTe)
  • 2 thin film - copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS)
  • 1 hybrid

Their combined PV array rating is about 70 kW, and each array is instrumented with a highly accurate (revenue-grade) power meter, sunlight sensors (silicon pyranometers), and module temperature sensors.

Research Value

Operating a collection of PV module technologies side-by-side in the field enables researchers to make comparative analyses. Analysts are comparing actual solar energy production with predicted production and are quantifying how the different PV module technologies affect power output and are affected by cloud-induced seasonal solar variability.
